2009 saw me take a back seat from the fundraising. This was partly because I only ran one Marathon and partly because I decided it could be good to have a break. Despite this, £200 was still donated to Methodist Relief & Development Fund (MRDF) from those who still generously supported me.
I was fortunate enough to obtain a place in the London Marathon through my running club. This in mind, I therefore ran my first ever Marathon distance in a club top. (But I did add my name on to it). Before London I had been on a month's trip to New Zealand, Fiji and the USA and took part in the Rotorua Half Marathon in New Zealand during the trip. And I still had supporters with me (thanks to Lowenna and Ben). London therefore didn't have the best run in in terms of training and on the day I missed out a sub 4 hour time by 3 seconds!
2009 also saw me gain an 8th place in one of the Champagne League races and in the winter I "won" my first ever race as I was the first club runner to cross the line in a Santa suit in the club's annual "Round the Town" race just before Christmas. I have not had a chance to defend my title as we changed the format in 2010 due to the weather and all ran together.
